Airbus has made Tom Williams its acting head of procurement.

Williams, who takes up the role today, continues his responsibilities as executive vice-president programmes. He replaces Henri Courpron. A spokeswoman for Airbus told it was not discussing the reasons Courpron had left the company.

He was with Airbus for 20 years and held positions including president and chief executive officer of Airbus North America Holdings.

In a company statement Airbus president and CEO Louis Gallois complimented Williams on his track record across the business, including his role as the previous head of procurement. Gallois added: "His expertise and leadership will add further momentum to the important steps ahead in the procurement area and in accompanying our suppliers towards a strong joint future."

From next Monday, Airbus will also have a new head of operations and member of the Airbus Executive Committee. Gerald Weber, who replaces Karl-Heinz Hartmann, was previously head of truck product creation at DaimlerChrysler AG.
