British Airways' chief buyer has been made the airline's new head of corporate social responsibility.
Silla Maizey, who is currently BA's head of procurement and finance operations, will lead improvements in carbon footprint, waste, noise and air quality, working practices, customer well-being and community.
She will report directly to chief executive Willie Walsh.
Maizey's spokeswoman said her replacement had yet to be appointed, but an internal recruitment process is under way.
Since joining BA in 1978, Maizey has held a number of roles and was appointed procurement director in September 1999.
As such, she is responsible for global sourcing of all goods and services for BA, amounting to around £4 billion a year. The responsibilities of the procurement director and the finance operations function were combined during a corporate restructure last year.
She has been a member of the internal corporate responsibility board, which issues social and environmental reports, for more than two years. Maizey takes up her new position on 1 November.
