South central NHS procurement hub Pro-Cure yesterday took over responsibilities for Southampton & Winchester Health Supplies Team.
Pro-Cure, which currently helps 17 trusts to make savings and use framework agreements, will now carry out purchases for the five trusts covered by the supplies team.
Tim Cronin, former director of procurement for the health supplies team and now sector director for Pro-Cure devised the plan. He told Supplymanagement.com the takeover would "remove confusion and duplication, establish clear lines of accountability and provide economies of scale and the opportunity to reduce operating costs".
Pro-Cure said there will be no job losses as a result of the move. Twenty-seven health supplies staff will retain their existing grades and work with Pro-Cure staff in Southampton.
The health supplies team, created seven years ago, delivered £3 million cash savings and £1.8 million cost avoidance savings in 2006-7.
