Frozen food giant Birds Eye has outsourced its utilities spend in a bid to accelerate savings.

Xchanging Procurement Services will manage the manufacturer's electricity, water, gas and sewage categories under the three-year support agreement. The procurement services provider could not reveal how much the deal was worth or how much it hoped to save the firm. Bob Hannon, Birds Eye's chief procurement officer, said: "We are pleased to engage Xchanging as a market-leading procurement services provider to manage our utilities spend in the UK. We believe its deep expertise in this category will accelerate savings delivery." David Rich-Jones, head of Xchanging Procurement Services, said: "This agreement demonstrates the value Xchanging can bring to specific categories as a result of our expertise and varied skill-set. It also reinforces Xchanging's position as a leading player in the procurement services marketplace."
