Steve Jones, formerly chief procurement officer at retail group DSGi, has joined waste management firm Biffa as head of purchasing.
He will be responsible for improving the strategic purchasing function as part of the firm's transformation under its new owners, a private equity consortium of GIP, Montagu and Uberior.
Jones, who previously held procurement roles at Black & Decker, Dunlop Slazenger and SmithKline Beecham, described his move as an exciting time to join the business: "I had three great years at DSGi, we made some fantastic progress, built a great team and delivered significant bottom line benefits to the business. I leave knowing the team is in great shape and has the leadership to take it to the next level."
DSGi has promoted Robert Douglas, one of Jones' deputies at the retail group, to CPO with responsibility for the group's goods-not-for-resale spend. Douglas has procurement experience at Ford, Capgemini, Ernst & Young and Barclays.
"It's a great opportunity for me to build on the solid foundations that Steve, [purchasing controller] John Martin and I have laid and we are prepared to make a major impact on DSGi's bottom line during the difficult trading period ahead of us," Douglas said.
