Volvo has hired a supplier's chief executive as its head of procurement.

Bernt Ejbyfeldt, previously the CEO at Swedish plastic component supplier Konstruktions-Bakelit, has been appointed to take up the role of senior vice-president purchasing from 1 March.

He will take over from former head Albie van Buel who is leaving to take up a purchasing role at electronics firm Philips in the Netherlands.

However, Ejbyfeldt is not a stranger to the firm having started his career working at Volvo at the age of 20. He has spent 25 years at the company and began working in the purchasing department since 1988. He was the purchasing director on the Volvo S80 and was responsible for the firm's production purchasing.

"It will be really interesting to come back and bring with me the experience from the supplier perspective," he said in a statement.
