German sweet manufacturer Haribo is reviewing its supply chain operations in the UK to improve its logistics ahead of the firm's planned expansion this year.

The firm has appointed consultants Total Logistics to examine its supply chain, looking at its distribution centres, logistics strategy, how it stores its products and their delivery.

The review will primarily focus on Haribo's UK manufacturing plant in Pontefract and its distribution centre in Rotherham. The review will also include the selection of a new logistics supplier to handle the firm's deliveries to wholesalers and retailers.

Per Henerius, managing director for Haribo UK, said: "We have always strived to achieve excellence in all our production systems. However these need to be linked to a best-in-class supply chain to ensure our product reaches customers in a timely and efficient way."

Haribo expects to have the new supply chain model up and running in the first half of 2008.
