Chris Lovatt is the new supply chain director at E.ON UK.

He moves to the energy firm from Alliance Boots, where he was head of sourcing and purchasing for nearly seven years. He replaces Colin Davis, who joined United Utilities as head of supply chain earlier this year (News, 5 June).

"I'm looking forward to it, not just in terms of the supply chain but the business as well. The energy sector has a lot of challenges around carbon emissions and security of supply," Lovatt told SM. "I need to understand what the business requires and what the stakeholders want. I'm going into this with a fairly open mind."

Lovatt headed the spend on goods for resale at Boots and was involved in buying raw materials for the retailer's own brand products. He stepped into his new role last week, taking over from interim director Graham Line. Lovatt said he was aware of the standard at E.ON UK, after the firm won top prize at the 2007 CIPS SM Awards (News, 4 October 2007): "The function is in a good position to move to the next level."

Lovatt was named as one of the 20 stars of purchasing and supply by SM in 2002.
