Websites similar to the Olympic Delivery Authority's (ODA) CompeteFor portal, designed to open up supply chains and procurement to SMEs, will be used in future public sector procurement projects.
John Armitt, ODA chairman, told delegates: "Government is talking about taking on this concept for other public sector procurements." He added 75 per cent of contracts let through the site have gone to SMEs.
He also said: "I don't believe there is any such thing as a fixed-price contract, particularly in construction, unless you're absolutely sure what it is that you are ordering, and how many, and what the design of it is."
