Robin Proctor, supply chain director at building supplies and DIY firm Travis Perkins (TP), is to join the company's executive committee.

"Since joining us in September 2006 Robin has restructured the group's supply chain division and successfully introduced a range of initiatives to support development," said a company statement.

"His appointment to the executive committee recognises the increasing importance of supply chain in the company and Robin's ongoing contribution."

Last week the group's preliminary results credited supply chain improvements with providing £34 million in cash savings by reducing stock levels and improving product availability.

TP added it was confident it could weather challenging economic conditions by using options including "further headcount reductions, additional working capital savings and supply chain improvements".
