The OGC has launched an online knowledge-sharing portal as part of its aim to raise the skills and capability of government procurement professionals.

The Government Procurement Service (GPS) Online includes access to a discussion forum, a resource library and a contacts directory.

It has been trialled for several months and is now being publicly launched.

Nigel Smith, OGC chief executive and head of the GPS, said this service was a "significant step in what we are offering the government procurement community to assist in their career management and development".

An OGC spokesman said public sector buyers asked for the website at a conference in July 2007.

He said all 4,000 central government procurement professionals were eligible to join and the target was to get up to 250 to sign up in the next year.
