CIPS and IPSA unveil plans for a full service institute in Southern Africa

CIPS and IPSA have signed a statement of intent as part of talks to meld the two organisations and create a procurement institute for Southern Africa.

At the annual IPSA/CIPS Pan African conference yesterday, the two professional bodies announced plans to bring together their interests and activities in the southern region of the continent. The rest of Africa would be served by CIPS as it is now.

The proposal is designed to meet "overwhelming demand" in Southern Africa to establish a full service institute that can support and grow the purchasing profession at local and national levels CIPS president Bola Afolabi and chair of the board of directors for IPSA, Karen Van Vuuren (both pictured) made the announcement.

Meanwhile, the CIPS board of management has approved a new international strategy, which includes a target to further regionalise the institute's activities globally.
