The cost to procurement teams of purchasing maintenance, repair and operating goods has gone up by 5 per cent this year, latest figures from CAPS Research have found.

Costs associated with purchasing MRO goods can account for a large percentage of a company’s annual spend. The study, which measures the cost of a market basket of commonly purchased maintenance, repair and operating goods (MRO), looks at the average and median costs of 45 items.

This is the third year in a row that has shown an increase in market basket’s total cost.

CAPS Research developed the MRO Market Basket of Goods based on input from a group of Fortune 500-size companies who recommended which items should be included. Among them are ball valves, florescent lamps, electric motors, ear plugs, latex Kevlar gloves, measuring tape, rope, and hair nets.
