Lancashire County Cricket Club has outsourced purchasing activities to Optimum Procurement in a three-year deal to manage at least £43 million spend.

The agreement is the first of its kind in English cricket and the County Championship winners said they were confident the cost-saving deal will deliver big business benefits as it moves ahead with a redevelopment programme for Old Trafford.

Optimum will be relied upon to help reduce costs, improve sourcing efficiency and update underlying internal processes.

Lee Morgan, finance and operations director at Lancashire CCC, said: “This is a significant partnership at a momentous period in the club’s commercial development. By investing in new infrastructure…we are bucking the trend in a very challenging economic climate. Optimum will help us ensure we get the very best value and service from our suppliers and this is a crucial deliverable as we transform Old Trafford into a premier cricketing venue fit to host an Ashes Test in 2013.”

It is not clear what the savings target is but it is expected to be a “significant sum”.

Optimum CEO Peter Rushton told SM they are already involved with the purchase of seating for the revamped venue and added that LCCC hopes the new, improved grounds will give it a competitive advantage.
