US space agency NASA has signed up Wichita Tribal Enterprises (WTE) to provide procurement support in processing contracts.

The deal, which will begin on 1 June, is primarily to provide support for all NASA centres in completing contracts, but also includes a number of other services that will be completed as needed. As part of the deal, WTE will help NASA centres complete purchase orders, grants and other contractural agreements,  an activity that has a maximum value of $12 million (£7.5 million).

In addition, the Native American-owned business will also provide a range of procurement support services, including procurement card support, small business office support and contract development, with a maximum overall value of $30 million (£18.9 million). These services will be available to all NASA centres when needed.

Michelle Berdux from the procurement department at NASA shared services centre told SM: “The service providers will be working with the NASA civil servants in procurement for both closeout and procurement support services.”

The NASA Shared Services Centre, which will manage the contract, is a partnership between NASA and the states of Mississippi and Louisiana and performs a range of back office support services, including procurement, HR and IT, for the 10 NASA centres.
