Nominees in this year’s CIPS Supply Management Awards soaked up the sun and eyed up the competition at the annual party for those shortlisted yesterday evening.

Buyers from organisations including LOCOG, Ferrovial, Jaguar Land Rover, EDF Energy and YPO enjoyed drinks and a barbecue by the waterside at Kings Place in London, location of this year’s CIPS Annual Conference.

John Fernau, head of procurement at the Olympic Delivery Authority –overall winner in 2011 - and a judge this year, told the nominees how great it had been for him and his team to have been rewarded for their hard work.

Yesterday the judging panel gathered to decide the victors in this year’s Awards, and tantalisingly Fernau told the nominees: “I know there are some gold medal winners among you tonight.”

Both Fernau and Gerry Walsh, LOCOG’s procurement director who is nominated in the Professional of the Year category, attended the final dress rehearsal for tonight’s Olympic opening ceremony and assured everybody it would be a sight to be seen.

The nominees will find out if they are the lucky winners on 12 September at the CIPS SM Awards ceremony, which takes place at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.

The gala evening, hosted in association with BravoSolution, will feature a sumptuous dinner before comedian Miles Jupp entertains the audience and reveals the winners in the 10 team and two individual categories.

To book your place at this year’s ceremony, please contact Charlotte Bogaert on 020 7324 2764 or go to www.cipssmawards.com for details.

Other sponsors of the night include Hays Procurement and MasterCard. QinetiQ Commerce Decisions is the official technology provider for the judging.
