Clarks Shoes has appointed Andy Neilson as group head of procurement.

This new role is designed to help the business restructure its procurement function and deliver a five-year strategic plan to expand globally.

Neilson told SM his first priority will be to oversee the supply chain and logistics spend. He will also have responsibility as procurement lead for Asia Pacific.

He said: “I’m very excited to start working within a successful, global British brand that makes big profits. I’ve been really impressed by the talented procurement team at Clarks.”

Neilson’s position has been created to support other new roles in the restructure. He will be reporting to Clarks’ group director of global procurement, James Wakeford.

Neilson left his previous role as head of procurement at health club chain Fitness First at the end of 2011 and has spent the past 10 months as procurement director at Poole Lighting. “Fitness First was also a global conglomerate. Procurement has the ability to influence and manage a global brand from a centre of focus,” he said. “Any new structure brings challenges, but I can already see opportunities to work with stakeholders and support the team to add value and cut costs.”
