Beneath the dazzling lights of the Grosvenor House Hotel’s Great Room, the world’s top buyers who had gathered for last night’s CIPS Supply Management Awards ceremony waited anxiously to see if they be called on stage as one of the lucky winners.
Comedian and TV star Miles Jupp, known for his role in the BBC sitcom Rev, entertained the audience before presenting the victors with their awards. “We know procurement’s not just about buying paperclips,” he quipped. “It’s also about staples, pencils and occasionally a hole-punch.”
Those teams and individuals carefully navigated through the multitude of tables to collect their award, accompanied by loud applause and cheers from the audience.
CIPS president David Smith picked up his guitar to make his annual appearance on stage with his band The Front Covers. People flocked to the dance floor as Smith and his rockers belted out hit after hit, ending the set with a tribute to the Kings of Leon that had everybody on their feet.
A surprise highlight was a taxi photo booth, provided by the night’s headline sponsor BravoSolution, complete with fancy dress props. This proved extremely popular with the audience who took home their photos as a souvenir of the night.
