Neil Monaghan has been promoted to CEO of the regional media division of APN News & Media, from the role of group operations and procurement director.

Monaghan, who replaces Warren Bright, will take on overall responsibility for the group’s regional publications, including the Warwick Daily News, the Toowoomba Chronicle and the Gympie Times. The company explained due to the difficult operating environment for local media, a new direction of leadership is important.

Peter Cosgrove, chairman of APN, said: “APN believes there is a strong future in regional newspapers to provide local news to local communities and our strategy will be clearly focused on meeting this need for our readers and advertisers.”

At the same time, the company also announced a restructuring of its digital division, which will see the management structure of brandsExclusive, GrabOne and CC Media simplified.
