The largest food supplier to aquariums in the UK has had its supply chain certified as sustainable.

Marine Nutrition‎, which supplies two out of every three aquariums in the country, received certification from the Marine Stewardship Council. Its products are used by aquariums to feed penguins, sea lions, seals and other aquatic species.

Paul Bird, director of Marine Nutrition, said: “It was natural for us to go down the MSC route, as the main driving force of our business is that we source products from well-managed, sustainable fisheries.”

The company is aiming for half of its sales volume to be from MSC-certified products by 2016.
