TNT Express has been recognised by the Department for Work & Pensions (DWP) as its supplier of the year 2013.

The international courier, headquartered in the Netherlands, was picked out for the top honour at the government department’s third Supplier Excellence Awards for showing a strong commitment to sustainability and small businesses. For the sustainability award, it was praised for achieving several accreditation standards, such as the Carbon Trust Standard.

A spokesman for DWP said: “The prestigious DWP Supplier of the Year award went to TNT Express Services for their commitment to sustainability and their achievements in reducing carbon levels in their service delivery to DWP and supporting the Department’s SME agenda.”

The award for collaboration went to Serco for encouraging positive collaboration among other prime contractors on the Work Programme. The services company also won the award for value for money, developing a bespoke system to manage electronic accounts of cases.

The Let's Do Business Group, which provides business advice and training, also won two awards, for customer delivery and best contribution from a third sector organisation.

Other winners included:

Innovation – Ingeus (Work Programme contract)

Sustainability - TNT Express (dedicated courier network)

Best contribution from an SME – Lightmaker (contracts for help and support for separated families)
