The procurement team at King Abdullah University of Science and Technology was the big winner at the CIPS Middle East Awards, scooping prizes in three team categories and the inaugural overall award.

The Saudi university was victorious in the Best Cross Functional Teamwork, Most Improved Purchasing Operation – Step Change and Best Supplier Relationship Management categories, before picking up the overall award for its step change transformation project.

But the team didn’t sweep the board in all the categories they were nominated in. Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank beat them to the keenly contested title of Procurement Team of the Year.

More than 100 nominees, guests and VIPs gathered at the Jumeirah Creekside Hotel last night following the CIPS Middle East Conference for the third annual celebration of excellence in procurement and supply in the region.

Other winners on the night included Worley Parsons for Best Contribution to Corporate Responsibility, Qatar Petroleum for Best People Development Initiative and Majid Al Futtaim Properties for Most Improved Purchasing Operation - Start Up.

Individual honours went to Richard Reynolds for Professional of the Year, and Faisal Saleem of Masdar was named Young Professional of the Year.

Judging technology for the event was supplied by QinetiQ Commerce Decisions.
