A property developer that specialises in boutique hotels has appointed a senior procurement professional as its chief operating officer.

Alan Hartley, who is on the shortlist for the title of professional of the year at this year’s CIPS Supply Management Awards, has joined Signature Living as COO from his previous role as group head of procurement at uranium enricher Urenco, where he led a team of 60 with annual spend of around €800 million.

Signature Living operates a hotel and serviced apartments, and is launching a new 83-bedroom hotel this weekend that pays tribute to the former Liverpool football manager Bill Shankly in the city.

Hartley, who has also held senior procurement roles at AstraZeneca, Unilever and BOC Gases, said: “For me it’s not about working within a particular industry, be that pharmaceutical, nuclear – or in this case, a hotel group – it’s about the company and the opportunity for me to make a tangible difference to an organisation in terms of service delivery, performance and value,” he said.

“Signature Living is a company that is led by individuals who share similar values and ambitions to myself and it presents precisely the sort of the challenge I am looking for at this point in my career,” he added.

Lawrence Kenwright, founder of Signature Living, added: “Alan brings with him a wealth of experience. He has an impressive track record in management and procurement having worked for a number of global organisations.”
