Procurement professionals at Metro Trains Melbourne (MTM) have taken ownership of their careers through a continuing professional development programme (CPD) based on CIPS’ Global Standard.
The rail service provider has become an employer of choice for procurement professionals, aiding recruitment and selection, and has identified its training needs and developed focused-learning experiences tailored to individuals.
A year after achieving CIPS certification, the company wants to develop a strong reputation for HR development and boost its procurement practices. By reviewing its 25-strong procurement function’s current position descriptions and plotting them on a capability programme, it formulated a CPD plan for each individual which included skills training, informal learning, mentoring, CIPS knowledge and e-learning.
Benchmarking against the Global Standard and introducing the CPD programme improved staff morale.
Jason Westwood, commercial project manager, said: “Working with CIPS on the application of Global Standards provides a tremendous opportunity for individual roles and responsibilities to be standard across the profession.”
