Attracting new talent at Detling

7 June 2015

CIPS Kent branch exhibited at the Kent Choices 4U careers event at Detling in an effort to entice school leavers into the procurement profession.

About 5,000 students and young people attended the two-day event in March, which is aimed at schools across Kent and at young people seeking career advice and guidance.

CIPS introduced them to procurement, highlighting its website beabuyer.org.

Ian Laponder, assistant vice president international IT Strategic sourcing at Commerzbank AG, said the Kent Branch intends to engage with more schools to give presentations on procurement.

“Many of the students told us they had never considered how companies obtained the goods and services they sell, or who buys the buildings, furniture and equipment needed to run the business,” he added.

“Many seemed interested, leaflets were handed out and fun procurement challenges were undertaken,” he said.
