Etihad Airways has been named the overall winner at this year’s CIPS Middle East Awards.
The Abu Dhabi airline won the prize for International Procurement Project of the Year earlier in the evening, before scooping the top honour at the fourth annual ceremony in the region.
Judges chose Etihad as the winner for establishing a joint procurement taskforce between the airline and its seven partners – Alitalia, Air Serbia, Air Seychelles, Air Berlin, Jet Airways, Virgin Australia and Aer Lingus. It saved $40 million in 2014 through joint tendering, and aims to save $80 million this year.
Sergey Dovgalenko, global procurement, equity partners at Etihad, said: “The efficiencies are not only monetary savings, but huge manpower and process gains, when instead of individual tenders for one of few locations, a group of airlines covers regions with one co-ordinated effort.”
The judges said: “Etihad is leading an excellent joint procurement programme with its equity alliance partners and has already delivered significant results with more to come.”
The airline also picked up the award for Best People Development on the night that celebrates the best in procurement and supply across the region.
Hariharan Laxminarayan of Emirates Global Aluminium Company was named CIPS Middle East Procurement and Supply Chain Management Professional of the Year. And Mohammed Zakir of The Petroleum Institute took home the award for young professional of the year.
