Oil & Gas UK’s new chief executive Deirdre Michie takes charge

6 May 2015

Oil & Gas UK’s new chief executive Deirdre Michie has now taken up the role.

Michie, who was appointed by the Board of Oil & Gas UK in February, has worked in several senior positions at Shell, including as contracting and procurement manager for Europe.

Last year she developed and implemented a revised sustainable operating model for Shell’s UK upstream operations, leading a multi-disciplinary team. Michie replaces Malcolm Webb who will formally retire on 31 May, following a brief handover period, after more than 40 years in the oil and gas industry.

Michie said there was a tough journey ahead for the sector.

“This is a difficult time for the offshore oil and gas sector,” she said. “We need to ensure a step up in its performance to deliver a positive and sustainable future. I look forward to working with industry, unions, governments and the regulators in moving this industry forward.”

Oil & Gas UK represents the UK offshore oil and gas industry, and currently has more than 500 members.
