Indian budget aims for more efficient public procurement

The Indian government has vowed to transform the country’s economy and enhance the lives of people in rural communities by improving procurement through a number of key budget initiatives.

In his 2016 budget speech, finance minister Arun Jaitley said that better technology, increased transparancy and good governance will make it easier and more efficient to conduct business in India, as well as improve the livelihoods of farmers who form “the backbone of the country’s food security”.
