Tokyo Gas and Kansai Electric Power strike deal on LNG procurement

14 April 2016

Tokyo Gas and Kansai Electric Power have agreed to collaborate on energy procurement and plant operation.

In a joint statement the two firms said that they had been considering strategic cooperation which would make use of their relative strengths in various fields such as liquified natural gas (LNG) procurement, power plant operation, developing new power plants and joint investment into overseas business.

The two companies have now announced that they have agreed to co-operate to improve flexibility in LNG procurement.

The firms also agreed to create a technology alliance for power plant operation and maintenance, saying that they could share know-how on developing personnel skills for power plant operation and maintenance and enhancing operation safety and efficiency.

“We are going to push forward discussion in a wide range of fields to realise stable and affordable energy supply in the future,” the companies said.
