Changes to public procurement law will mean federal officials will have to consider the “economic benefits” to Australia of all contracts over $4m.
The amendment, which will affect all public procurement from 1 March 2017, is contained in the Building and Construction Industry Act. This also requires preferred tenderers to provide information on the extent building materials are domestically sourced, the impact on jobs and whether the project will contribute to skills growth.
