China inks deal for Zambian road project

23 February 2016

China State Construction Engineering Corporation has signed a deal to build a 62km road in Zambia as part of an economic development drive.

The 18-month contract with the Zambian Road Development Agency is worth 177m Zambian kwacha.

The work will include earthwork, substratum and asphalt surface work, drains and culverts, pavement construction and traffic dispersion and other ancillary works.

The road is part of the Linking Zambia 8,000 project, which the government of Zambia has started to accelerate road construction in the country, and will be an important transport hub connecting the north west and west regions of the country.

It aims to improve travel conditions for local residents around the roads, and to promote local economic development.
