Australia’s chief economist has predicted the market for Australian commodity exports will remain largely positive, with earnings from resources and energy exports increasing by 3% to AUS$163bn in 2016–17.
Mark Cully, chief economist at the Department of Industry, Innovation and Science, said thermal coal exports into emerging economies would remain stable as lower imports into China were offset by higher imports from India and Southeast Asia.
