'Tell your friends what you do; they'll be blown away', buyers told

Overlooking a sun-soaked London skyline, the CIPS Supply Management Awards 2016 shortlist party took place on the terrace of the Blue Fin Venue last night.

The awards exist to celebrate the success, innovation and vision of procurement teams and individuals across the UK.

The final winners will be revealed at a black tie evening to be hosted by comedian Ed Byrne at the five-star Grosvenor House Hotel on 14 September.

Last night’s reception was an opportunity for shortlisted candidates to meet and mingle over drinks and food. Guests talked about their different projects and shared experiences of working with various suppliers and stakeholders.

And all while tucking into portions of mushroom risotto or chicken curry or taking selfies in front of the panoramic cityscape.

“The only reason that we’re here is to celebrate success, because you’ve all done an absolutely brilliant job to get here tonight. I should know, because I’ve read all the entries,” said Cath Hill, CIPS group marketing and membership director and one of the judges.

“There’s just such amazing case studies, such amazing projects, such amazing work being delivered around procurement and supply I can’t tell you, and I’m a marketing person,” she added.

This year’s awards evening promises to be the best so far, with more than 1,000 guests expected to attend.

The awards will recognise a range of achievements including corporate responsibility, supplier relationships, people development and contributions to the reputation of procurement.

“I don’t think people realise in the wider business, or in the wider world, just how much is delivered out of procurement and supply,” Hill said.

“So my plea to you… [is] to talk to your families and your friends and your colleagues about the work that you do, because I can assure you that they will be blown away, as I was.”
