China threatens 'air defence zone' after losing South China Sea claim

China warned it could introduce an Air Defence Identification Zone over the South China Sea if it feels threatened in the wake of an international court ruling against its claims over the area.

China claims a historic right to most of the South China Sea, the area of the pacific stretching from the Taiwan Strait to Singapore. The area is a major international shipping zone, and has recently been the site of increasing international tensions.
