Road built on shifting sands links Saudi Arabia and Oman

A 680-kilometre road that will link Saudi Arabia with Oman and radically reduce driving distances between the two states is due to be opened this year, according to the Oman state news agency.

The road links the Tanam area, Ibri province, in Oman, with Shaybah, Al-Kharj and Riyadh in Saudi Arabia. It covers around 160km in Oman and 566km in Saudi Arabia and will cut around 800km from the current journey.
