Australia’s competition watchdog has been instructed to use its broad powers to “shine a light” on the domestic gas market as the government tries to ease pressure over soaring energy prices.
Prime minister Malcolm Turnbull said after talks with gas chiefs in Canberra, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) had been given wide-ranging powers to compel the gas industry to provide information that would prise open the largely opaque market.
