Procurement professionals can expect to see pay rises averaging 10% in 2017, according to a salary survey.
However, contractors will get the biggest rises – 15% – while permanent staff can expect to get 4%.
The 2017 Robert Walters Global Salary Survey the uncertain economic climate meant “businesses are becoming increasingly conscious of the importance of spending efficiently”.
Sam Walters, associate director at Robert Walters, said: “Across all levels of seniority we have seen demand grow for high quality procurement professionals over the past year, with those with IT procurement experience being particularly highly sought after.
“While confidence remains high among employers, there is still a sense that delivering cost efficiency is a high priority, driving demand for procurement specialists. As employers compete over a relatively small talent pool, we have seen salaries driven up.”
Meanwhile, salaries for supply chain professionals are expected to increase by 4% on average, though for mid-level positions the rise will be 15%.
Across the board those working as contractors will see bigger rises, with junior positions seeing increases of 8% and more senior levels getting 11%.
Neil Morgan, manager at Robert Walters, said: “While employers are confident of continued growth in 2017 they also recognise that a shifting political and economic climate will require them to invest in supply chain functions in order to maintain efficient and cost effective processes.”
