SAP Ariba has partnered with eBay Australia and New Zealand to match corporate buyers with eBay sellers
Earlier this year B2B procurement marketplace SAP Ariba announced it was partnering with eBay Australia and New Zealand, allowing top-rated sellers access to corporate buyers via the service Spot Buy.
With Spot Buy, procurement managers unable to source a particular item from one of SAP Ariba’s corporate vendors, can instead click the ‘spot buy’ button and search eBay listings.
Only eBay sellers with a feedback rating of 99% or above will appear, however procurement professionals can activate additional sellers as required.
With 11.3 million unique visitors a month in 2016, eBay Australia is the number one e-commerce site in Australia. Up to 90% of the products it sells are brand new, suggesting it has become a more credible b2c marketplace.
Speaking at CIPS Australasia conference, eBay’s vertical lead Doug Mitchell said that last year 50% of all Australians had shopped on eBay. This has led to growth in new categories like food and wine, technology, automotive parts and accessories and fashion.
Mitchell explained that 80 of the top 100 retailers are on eBay, as well as over 30,000 small Australian businesses.
This growth and broadening of categories laid the foundation for Spot Buy and the supplier selection and matching that eBay went through to make sure vendors are vetted correctly, he added.
“We have on the platform around 5500 top rated sellers that go through rigorous seller standards to make sure they are shipping on time and their items are accurate,” he said.
“For our 95 preferred suppliers, who are also vetted, we used Spot Buy to put them through a process of commercial underwriting. These 95 sellers are account managed by eBay, so it means they have people in Australia that can resolve any business or customer issues.”
SAP Ariba Spot Buy first launched in the U.S. and Europe in 2016. It has more than one billion listings across 20,000 categories available from eBay sellers.
In Australia, SAP Ariba’s customers will have access to eBay’s 10 million local business solutions listings.
