Procurement standards and contracts in South Africa’s formal grocery retail sector favour large corporations and disadvantage smaller suppliers, a group of think tanks has warned.
In a submission to an inquiry into the grocery sector, the group said supermarkets should be “compelled to carry a proportion of stock produced by smallholders”.
