Amazon Business has launched business-to-business (B2B) selling for Indian exporters following a successful seven-month pilot program in the country.
Peeyush Nahar, Amazon B2B Marketplace vice president, said the move would allow Indian sellers to reach global customers through Amazon’s rapidly expanding Global Selling programme.
Amazon’s Global Selling program is the firm’s international marketplace for sellers, which offers key features including converting currency, fulfilling international shipments, navigating customs and duties and communicating with customers in local languages.
“We are happy to expand the scope of our Global Selling program in India for B2B customers, which takes another step by hiding the complexities of procurement processes of Fortune 500 companies from Indian sellers,” he said.
“Indian sellers can simply focus on doing what they do best – design and manufacture high quality products and the program will get the sellers in front of decision-makers of Fortune 500 companies as well as medium and small corporations across the world.”
Amazon said the program would offer additional benefits to Indian sellers who sign up to the Marketplace, including discounted referral fees for bulk orders, bulk quantity discounts and business pricing.
Sellers would also be able to maintain a single selling account to manage inventory and product listings for both business-to-consumer (B2C) and B2B selling, take complete control of pricing, brand and messaging, while Amazon would provide customer service on behalf of the seller to resolve issues, it said.
Nahar said the program started as a pilot last year and received positive response with over 2,000 exporters currently registered for B2B global selling.
“We do the hard work for the sellers … you don’t have to deal with any middlemen or have any distribution network – we are making that direct connection for sellers in India to business buyers across the world,” he said.
The program has already been launched in five markets – US, UK, Germany, France and Japan.
Gopal Pillai, director of Amazon India Seller Services, said the launch in the country would transform the way India buys and sells.
“Since its launch in 2015, Amazon’s global selling program has opened up new market segments for Indian B2C product exporters across India by giving them easy and convenient access to Amazon’s worldwide customer base,” he said.
“As we continue to witness a continued demand for made in India products across the globe, we believe this is an opportune time to further strengthen the program to enable Indian exporters access to both B2C and B2B markets in US, UK, Germany France and Japan.”
