A charity is calling on procurement professionals to support it by donating unwanted stock.
Barnardo’s, which supports 250,000 children in the UK with more than 1,000 services, needs goods it can sell on in its stores.
As well as assisting the charity in its work helping disadvantaged children, such as those in or leaving foster care, such donations can be categorised as gifts in kind. They are therefore tax deductible and VAT can be claimed back.
Cherry Tatlow, business development manager, said: “Donating stock frees up storeroom space. The goods are being recycled for a good cause – they are not going to landfill – and companies get the VAT back on those goods. If they disposed of it in other ways they would not get the VAT back.”
Tatlow said Barnardo’s worked with Boohoo, Tesco, Ikea, Berghaus and Regatta on such donations. “It’s very important and valuable to us,” she said.
Tatlow said old office furniture and IT, product samples and end-of-line and returned stock would be welcomed. “Most things are saleable,” she said.
A network of drivers is available to collect items if required.
Anyone interested in donating should contact the Gifts In Kind team at Barnardo’s at firstname.lastname@example.org
