Emirates Flight Catering (EKFC) soared to victory at the CIPS SM Middle East Awards last night.

During a glittering ceremony at the H hotel in Dubai EKFC, pictured below, was named overall winner, also picking up gongs for Best Process Improvement Initiative and Most Improved Procurement Operation – Step Change.

In 2015, faced with slowing growth and rising costs, EKFC identified that a major change in approach was required in order to elicit greater value from its AED1.3bn annual spend. The procurement team at EKFC

A new head of department was hired to transform purchasing from a backwater, concerned with ‘postboxing’ requests and rubberstamping purchase orders, to a strategic, value-adding procurement department.

The judges said: “Brilliant submission following the guidelines with great supporting documentation. A detailed plan that enhanced the procurement to a new level. Great job by the team.”
