Cyclone Idai destroyed infrastructure worth more than $1bn, according to the UN Economic Commission for Africa (ECA).
The ECA’s executive secretary Vera Songwe called on Africa to “seriously start prioritising emergency preparedness and disaster planning” after the storm tore through Mozambique, Zimbabwe, Madagascar and Malawi.
