MENA countries dominate water stress ranking

Twelve of the top 17 countries facing a possible water crisis are from the MENA region, according to the latest version of a water stress index.

The World Resources Index (WRI)’s Aqueduct Index finds 17 countries, which are home to a quarter of the world’s population, face “extremely high” water stress. Only five of these countries are from outside the MENA region.
