Increased digitalisation of procurement practices is expected to free capacity to pursue strategic aims and potentially help attract new talent, industry experts said at the 2019 CIPS Australasia Conference in Melbourne.
Rob Halsall, Westpac New Zealand’s former procurement head, said digitalisation was most likely to allow procurement specialists to free resources in transactional areas of their business by automating workflows and improving data analytics. However, he said innovation was likely to be most beneficial operating “adjacent” to core commercial procurement skills, rather than replacing them.
