$285m wasted by SA public bodies in five years

“Fruitless and wasteful expenditure” by South Africa’s (SA) national and provincial government bodies has continued to rise over the last five years, according to the auditor-general (AG).

In a report on audit outcomes in 2018-19 AG Kimi Makwetu called on SA government leaders to “act now” to halt the trend of “disappointing” audit results.
