Supermarket sweet?

“Deplorable” was the word one lettuce farmer used when describing the tactics of one major supermarket’s buyers on last night's BBC1 programme Shopping the Supermarkets. But this morning, Tesco (not the supermarket named on last night's show), said that reducing costs in its supply chain was all about “skill and attention to detail”.It just highlights the difference between buyers’ opinion of “good” procurement, and what suppliers see as “sharp” attempts to bleed them dry. Where can buyers draw the line? And is there anyway of bridging this difference in opinion?
