Soapbox: Do you trust your TPI?

In the last issue's soapbox Noreen Guy, operations director at John Hall Associates, discusses the pitfalls that face buyers when sourcing energy supplies.

Most retain third party intermediaries (TPIs). It's ironic that companies find it necessary to outsource to a specialist but are often not certain their costs are properly managed.

"The issues they often raise are:
- Poor contract management - billing, penalty rates, volume penalties, termination clauses.
- That they have been advised to take what turns out to be very unfavourable supply contracts (two to three years at peak prices, for example).
- They don't know what the service costs them or what they get for their money."
