Golden age comes to an end

29 March 2007
It must be the shortest peak period in history. Only two weeks after the SM100 voted in (near) union that now was the best ever time to be working in procurement, visitors to supplymanagement.com have shot down their views. The latest SM online web poll shows that only 29.7 per cent of visitors agreed that this is currently the best time to be a buyer. 56.8 per cent voted that it isn't currently the best time. Perhaps the anonymity of the web poll gave visitors the chance to vent their frustration on the stricter regulations and heavy cost-cutting focus that the magazine readers had cited as complaints. Or perhaps it was nostalgia for a more innocent time that kicked in. After all, who wouldn't be mourning the loss of those free bottles of whiskey and meals at a Berni Inn?
