Here we go

23 March 2007
Welcome to Buyography, the blog for Supply Management readers. This on-line forum gives procurement professionals, suppliers and anybody else who wants to get involved a chance to share their views. We will post a new topic or ‘thread’ every working day, sometimes serious, sometimes a bit lighter, but always informal and keen to receive your responses. Please don’t feel constrained by the subjects we choose. This is the buyers’ forum so feel free to air your views/frustrations/musings on anything. Just one housekeeping note, we have to check all submissions for libel or copyright, but apart from that, we’ll be faithful to your original words. Today’s topic: Bizarre Bazaar. We’ve been asking readers to suggest the weirdest things they’ve been asked to source by their companies recently and some of the examples we've received are a little worrying. Here’s a few that have already been put forward – Body bags and funeral services (There’s something to really make you wonder about your long-term future at a company). Beryllium Oxide (Which included a follow-up meeting with Mi5, who wanted to know the real reason the company was sourcing this). Flowers for the boss’ wife (You never know, maybe getting a volume discount was worth it in the long run). But what’s the strangest thing you’ve ever been asked to buy? As they say on Through the Keyhole – it’s over to you.
